Eve is the infant daughter of Gem, conceived as part of a Manticore breeding program following the destruction of the organization's DNA database. She was born in Jam Pony while it was under siege by Ames White and Familiars of Phalanx, with Normal and Original Cindy serving as midwives. Gem would later name her "Eve", as she was the first known X5 to be born outside of Manticore, and raise her as a single mother in Terminal City with support from other transgenics. Because Eve was conceived naturally, she does not have a barcode.
